Kendra Troschel
About the Artist
The Oxford-based artist, Kendra Troschel is a third-generation artist. Growing up in Australia but being taught German traditions, she often felt out of place. This started her journey to understand emotions and learn more about them.
She later went on to finish her Bachelors and Masters in Science, working as a scientist for over 10 years. This feeling of something missing continued, until she picked up a paint brush in 2018.
Influenced by works of literature and the emotions they provoke, she shows us the moments that define us. Through her eclectic upbringing she has learned that the moments we experience form emotions. These emotions will go on to add to who we are and how we perceive those moments, our memories.
In order to paint these emotions Kendra needs to work in opposition to her scientific training, painting purely from her subconscious. Through the continual addition and subtraction of paint strokes, the emotion starts to make itself known, solidifying a verse of prose into a single visual moment.
Kendra has recently participated in the International Grand Exhibition at Hong Art Museum in Chongqing, China 2020, “From 1900 impressionism to contemporary art”. This exhibition was monumental in establishing Chongqing as a major contributor to International art.
