The Crossroads of the World: Construing Visual Meanings in Contemporary Art
The Crossroads of the World: Construing Visual Meanings in Contemporary Art - International Contemporary Art Exhibition at MoCA Beijing 2019
On the afternoon of May 11, 2019, the International Art Exhibition "The Crossroads of the World: Construing Visual Meanings in Contemporary Art" co-organized by the Beijing Museum of Contemporary Art and the Hamburg Pashmin Art Consortia opened at the Beijing Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition took seven months to showcase the works of 28 international artists. The works cover sculpture and photography and a variety of media such as painting and composite materials.
The fascinating references of the artworks are elusive and the apparent appeal of their surfaces, diverse techniques, three-dimensionality, etc. arouse our reflection. The reward is enriching our understanding of how visual meanings can be construed from different markers, images and associations, from poetics of art, in general. They try to get into our unconscious and play a major role in the production of visual meanings, as well as in our spiritual life.
The large-scale group exhibition launched by the Beijing Museum of Contemporary Art and Pashmin Art Consortia aims to open the door of communication between wisdom and art in different cultures, and is committed to contributing to the deeper cultural exchanges in future. Mental worlds of the artists mirrored in their artworks meet in a Chinese museum, functioning as the crossroads of the world.
The exhibition is hosted by Qin Feng, founder and curator of the Beijing Museum of Contemporary Art. The founder and art director of Pashmin Art Consortia Nour Nouri, the Chinese co-curators Dr. Ariel, Doki Gao and co-curators Zahra Hasson and Dr. Davood Khazaie from Germany jointly curated the exhibition.
On the day of the opening ceremony, the society received extensive attention. Many artists and art lovers from Beijing stopped at the exhibition hall to communicate with the participating artists. This exhibition will last until June 17, 2019.
