Andreas Reis
About the artist
Andreas Reis came late to painting. He first studied psychology and worked for a long time as a therapist with children. Later, he studied painting and graphic design in Essen, and since then he has been working as a freelance artist. The starting point of painting for Andreas Reis is the reception of impressions from the environment. Frequent motifs are landscapes, city views or portraits. All of his paintings begin with the perception of a part of the environment. He first takes some photographs and then makes some sketches according to them. Then the work is created based on these sketches and photographs in the studio. Andreas Reis developed interest in landscapes and urban views in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This landscape has not altered for a long time, or has changed very little, and the lakes there have a unique nature. The cities in Mecklenburg have changed again after the Fall of the Berlin wall. The old districts were restored. For Andreas Reis, the buildings which could not be renovated for a long time, were particularly charming. They have a long history and you can find the traces of the time in these buildings. By the decline, the buildings often take on a peculiar color. The attempt to reproduce this story and capture the decline and new beginnings is the artistic challenge that Mr. Reis devotes to his art and gets involved in.
