Jörg Bollin
About the Artist
“Forming comes from shape and has something to do with people”, says the sculptor Jörg Bollin from Freiburg. He is particularly interested in people between nature and culture. He tries to find out what possibilities there are in us and what we make of it. What is spirit, what is matter? Does the body have a soul or does the soul have a body? Does man need nature, or does nature need man? Questions after questions. Jörg Bollin lives with the tensions resulting from these questions by forming.
His artistic work testifies to the fundamental importance of the elements earth, fire, water and air. They often express opposites: hard - soft, permanently transient, open - closed, impenetrable - transparent, material - immaterial, organically inorganic ... - opposites that Bollin tries to endure and reconcile at the same time. Bollin's life and work are balancing acts, especially since he is committed to be simultaneously as a craftsman, a designer and a teacher and also a freelance artist. As such, he feels challenged to document from the elements of nature that reflect the spirit of the time.
What has characterized Jörg Bollin's work for many years is the combination of natural stone material with new, variable materials. Metal, glass and feathers form the counterpart to the solid and permanent stone and change its original expression.
